(Materials due in our office by February 21, 2009)

The 2009 Banff Rockie World Television Awards will be presented at the 30th Banff World Television Festival in June 2009. The awards are for films and programs recently telecast (2008, 2009) AND recently completed productions that are primarily intended for telecast. Telecast includes local, network, cable, pay, satellite television broadcast, as well webcasts, podcasts, etc. Productions that have had a wide theatrical release prior to being telecast are NOT eligible. Programs should be submitted in their entirety.

The Banff World Television Awards includes twenty-one genre based categories and two interactive categories recognizing excellence in interactive television.

Judging Process, Nominees, Category Winners and Prizes

Selection Juries appointed by Jury Hosts recruited from around the world will decide nominees for the awards, as well as category winners. (A jury host is an organization who agrees to underwrite and facilitate the screening and judging of one or more categories.) Jury Hosts are recruited by festival organizers.

A Banff Rockie Award will be awarded to the Best of Category in each of the 22 categories.

Selection juries and/or festival organizers may choose additional programs for out of competition (hors concours) recognition.

Best Canadian Program

In addition to the international prizes, a Banff World Television Award will be presented for the Best Canadian Program entered in the competition. Canadian finalists will be screened by an independent jury of Canadian television professionals.

Grand Prize and Special Jury Awards

All category winners and short listed programs nominated for special jury prizes, and any additional prizes will be screened by an International Grand Jury to be convened just prior to the Festival. The International Grand Jury will decide the winner of the Grand Prize as well as Special Jury Awards, and any additional prizes announced during the 2009 competition.

Awards of Merit: Best Fiction, Best non-Ficton Program

In addition to two Special Jury Prizes and the Grand Prize, the Banff Rockie World Television Awards are introducing four new prizes that will be awarded by the International Grand Jury as a way to recognize exceptional merit in program making. Both nominees and category winners are eligible to be short-listed for these Rockie awards. Recommendations from all selection juries in all categories will be short-listed by festival organizers for the international jury to screen and select winners.

Independently Juried Prizes

In addition to the international jury prizes, a Banff Rockie Award will be presented to any independently juried prizes such as the Best Canadian Program where Canadian finalists are screened by an independent jury of Canadian television professionals.

Other independently juried prizes may be announced in the course of the competition and eligibility for any such prizes is based on information supplied on your entry form.

Announcements & Notifications

Programs chosen as nominees will be announced in April 2008 in a live press announcement and available on our website. Winners will be announced at a live awards presentation at The Banff World Television Festival in June 2009. Press releases for both will be sent to international wire services and the trades.
